Who is Miss Rodeo Colorado?

Miss Rodeo Colorado is the ideal western American young woman. She symbolizes the youth of the state who wish to further promote the “Sport of Rodeo.” While representing and traveling throughout Colorado during her rein, she will be working hard to promote the state’s great Western heritage and Western way of life.

What does it mean to be Miss Rodeo Colorado?

Miss Rodeo Colorado shall be Colorado’s official representative, presenting the sport of Rodeo to the general public. She shall serve as Goodwill Ambassador for the Stampede and work willingly with the news media in promotion of the Greeley Stampede, the Miss Rodeo Colorado Pageant, the sport of rodeo, and the western way of life. She shall attend any function, rodeo, or activity that the Miss Rodeo Colorado Pageant Committee approves.

What type of young woman does the Miss Rodeo Colorado competition attract?

The Miss Rodeo Colorado Pageant is not a “beauty contest”, however, it strives to find a representative who will act, speak and dress in a manner consistent with the prestige the title deserves. This would be:

  • A young woman who wishes to be a leader in her community and further promote the western way of life;
  • A young woman who loves horses and everything every thing they represent; who is willing to show the rest of our great nation what can be accomplished surrounded by this environment;
  • A young woman who wants to act as the official representative of Rodeo to the general public, portraying unexcelled sportsmanship, high moral and ethical character, and reflecting careful and humane treatment of animals; who understand the “Sport of Rodeo” in its entirety and can speak intelligently, with dignity and sincerity about Rodeo, enough to be able to explain and “Sell” it to anyone with whom she may come in contact-even someone who knows nothing about the sport;
  • An ambitious young woman who is interested in furthering her chosen career through higher education and special training;
  • A young woman who will appreciate the awards she receives and knows the value of the many corporate sponsors of the Miss Rodeo Colorado Pageant and be able to talk about and promote them as well in a professional manor.
  • Great Attitude and impeccable professionalism are a must for a young woman who is interested in becoming Miss Rodeo Colorado.
  • It takes a lot of organization, maturity, motivation and being a self starter to be Miss Rodeo Colorado successfully. A young woman will need to have these qualities if they want to be successful:
    • Demonstrate personal initiative to take responsibility
    • Lead by example and inspire others
    • Be results and goal driven
    • Commit to excellence in the results they achieve
    • Quality and integrity will be hallmarks of how they should be a queen
    • Strive for continuous improvement in them self

    • Create strategies, develop solutions, and take advantage of opportunities

Rules of Conduct for Miss Rodeo Colorado

Miss Rodeo Colorado shall be no less than eighteen and no more than twenty-six years of age effective the last day of the 2008 Miss Rodeo America Pageant. She shall have never been married, had a marriage annulled or been pregnant, nor shall she during the year of her reign. In addition, she shall not maintain any form of cohabitation with another person during the year of her reign. She is a graduate of high school and has never been convicted of any crime. She is a current Colorado resident and shall reside within the state of Colorado during the entire year of her reign.

Miss Rodeo Colorado symbolizes the youth of the state of Colorado. She is the ideal, western type American girl, and is the person who will represent professional rodeo as she travels throughout Colorado and surrounding states. Any behavior and/or activities performed my Miss Rodeo Colorado that would contradict this ideal image may result in the termination of her reign.

Prior to the official start of her reign, Miss Rodeo Colorado will be known as and addressed as “MRC Lady in Waiting”. Any appearances made during the period between her selection as Miss Rodeo Colorado and January 1 the following year will be as the MRC Lady in Waiting and every appearance during this period must be approved by the MRC Committee Pageant Director or her designee.

Sponsors solicited by Miss Rodeo Colorado for her personal benefit during her reign are considered “personal sponsors,” and must be approved by the MRC Executive Committee. The MRC Committee Director must approve consideration for “official” sponsorship of the Miss Rodeo Colorado Pageant.

Miss Rodeo Colorado shall not make any agreements or promises for advertising in any official Miss Rodeo Colorado Pageant publications or any eligibility for the Stampede Gold Spur program independent of the MRC Committee Director.

As a representative of the MRC Committee and the State of Colorado, Miss Rodeo Colorado shall dress appropriately, in western attire, complete with crown and banner, at any and all appearances and functions, and shall be perfectly groomed at all times including the time she travels to and from such appearances and functions.

Miss Rodeo Colorado is consistently in the public eye. It is her responsibility to uphold and maintain an outstanding image. Miss Rodeo Colorado should exhibit high moral standards and lady-like behavior in every situation. Miss Rodeo Colorado must wear her banner, tiara and western attire whenever serving in the capacity of MRC.

With regard to attitude, she should present a pleasant personality and be willing to help in any way that will better promote Colorado, Rodeo, and the Greeley Stampede. It is her responsibility to answer questions about rodeo, etc. Some appearances may become repetitive but it is part of the job.

Meticulous care in every aspect of appearance is extremely important. Hair should be well maintained. Hands should be manicured. Makeup should be appropriate to the situation and general body and clothing cleanliness cannot be stressed enough.

Miss Rodeo Colorado should be up-to-date with current western fashion. She is viewed as a trend setter, therefore, she must be aware of new styles.

  • Hats should be appropriately shaped. No straw hats are to be warn. The tiara must be insured through a personal insurance policy.
  • Boots should be kept clean and polished
  • Pants should be clean, starched and enhance the figure by being neither too tight nor too baggy.
  • Shirts should be long-sleeved and tucked in or have belt over them.
  • The Miss Rodeo Colorado buckle is part of the official outfit and has to be worn at all times.
  • Jewelry should enhance the outfit and not take away from it.

Miss Rodeo Colorado should be willing to listen and take advice pertaining to wardrobe, makeup, etc. The advice is not meant to be criticism but rather a way to improve weak areas.

Being Miss Rodeo Colorado is a full-time job and should be treated accordingly. In order to be effective, an image must be maintained at all times.

  • Boyfriends. There shall be no public display of affection.
  • Alcohol. None.
  • Tobacco. No smoking or chewing tobacco allowed.

The Miss Rodeo Colorado Official Contract goes over all these and many more rules and regulations in great detail, and has to be signed by the winner of the pageant to be able to hold the coveted title of Miss Rodeo Colorado.
